Exterior Decorating at the Old Hospital Building, Cuckfield
There are jobs you remember for the quality of the work. And then there are jobs you remember for something more personal. For one member of the MPD Decorating team, arriving on site at the Old Hospital Building in Cuckfield was a
genuinely unique moment — he was born there, back when the building was still a fully operational hospital. It doesn’t get more local than that!
The building has since been sensitively converted into residential flats, but its Victorian character is unmistakable — a substantial, multi-storey brick facade with period detailing that demands respect and careful handling. We
were appointed by the property management company to carry out a full programme of exterior painting and decorating works.
The Scope of Works
Projects of this scale require proper planning before a brush is lifted. The building’s exterior needed a thorough assessment first — identifying areas of timber decay, failing paintwork, and surfaces requiring preparation before any new finish could be applied.
Our team carried out timber repairs to windows and external joinery throughout the building, cutting out and replacing sections where rot had taken hold and making good where previous coatings had broken down. Getting this stage right is what determines how long the finished result actually lasts.
Once preparation and repairs were complete, we applied high-quality exterior coatings to all painted surfaces, protecting the building’s joinery against weathering and giving the facade a clean, well-maintained appearance that reflects well on the development and its residents.
